VELKY JAVORNIK LOOKOUT TOWER

Velky Javornik (918 m) is the highest peak of Verovice Hills, the westernmost foothills of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountains. There is a superb view of some of the Beskydy peaks, such as Lysa hora, Smrk, Knehyne, Radhost, Norici, Ondrejnik, Cerveny kamen, Kotouc, as well as the town valley. When the weather is promising, you can see as far as Jeseniky Mountains, Odra Hills and Ostrava region from the summit. You can reach the mountain via hiking trails from Frenstat pod Radhostem, Roznov pod Radhostem or Verovice. On the northwestern slopes of the mountain, there is nature reserve called Velky kamen. As the name suggests, you can find rock walls and large boulders in the old beech forests.

At the summit, at an elevation of 905 m above sea level, stands a mountain hut built in 1935, which is one of the most visited places in Beskydy Mountains. Another attraction here is a launch ramp for hang gliding.

There is a wooden observation tower nearly 26 meters tall. The tower’s vertical supporting structure consists of wooden beams and the upper levels are supported by columns made of wooden beams. The observation tower is open to public year-round and is free of charge.
